Analysis of Sexy Beast
The opening scene of 'Sexy Beast' is one of uniqueness and originality, and yet seems similar to many films set in a hot climate. It opens with the protagonist enjoying a sunbathe and muttering to himself, yet the camera remains on the sky and sun. This sets up the sequence as a hot, tropical Mediterranean country with valleys and hills for miles.
The contrast of his husky, brash Cockney accent against the idyllic, tropical climate conveys a sense of juxtaposition and irony as it's unusual to find a rough Englishman hiding there.
